go•pher (gō'fƏr) n. Slang – one who performs minor or menial tasks such as running errands. [Alteration of "go for"]

What a Gopher Does

Gophers help con staff with event set up, line control, badge checking, guiding attendees, running video and gaming equipment, workshops, panels, the masquerade, break down and clean up.

What a Gopher Does Not Do

What a Gopher does not do is handle money, function as a security guard or undermine the integrity of Zenkaikon (Zentrancon LLC).

What You Get Out of It

Now you might be asking yourself, "What's in it for me?" Well, depending how many hours of your life you are willing to give, you get:

  • Partial or full con registration refund
  • Meals
  • Beverages
  • Swag
  • A behind-the-scenes look at an anime/sci-fi con
  • Did I mention the refund, food, and beverages?

Shifts are in two-hour increments.

For every 4 hours worked, you get a meal voucher.
For 6 hours worked you get half of your paid registration refunded.
For 10 hours worked you get all of your paid registration refunded.
For 12 hour worked, in addition to meal vouchers and a full refund, you get to dip into the swag bag.

We expect you to fulfill all of the hours you agree to work.
We expect you to conduct yourself in an honest and courteous manner.
We expect you to bring any issues you are unable to resolve to the attention of a staff member.

Zenkaikon Gopher Requirements

  • You must be registered for Zenkaikon.
  • You must be at least 16 years old by the date Zenkaikon takes place.
  • You must submit a Gopher application and be approved.
  • You must go through a mandatory Gopher briefing before starting your first shift.
  • You must submit the required number of validated work hours to Zenkaikon Gopher Ops for meal vouchers and refunds.
