Fake gun policy?

Postby OceanxPlushie » Sat Feb 12, 2011 7:42 pm

The Convention Policies state "No guns, whether they are real or fake (including airsoft guns, flare guns, etc.)."

Does this also include fake guns made out of foam, cardboard, or paper mache that can not fire anything? I would assume it does, but just making sure.

Essentially, no fake guns of any kind either, because the hotel says so. You can always take whatever prop you are bringing to the prop check station if there is any question (all props have to be inspected and peace bonded anyway).

This thread is actually from Zenkaikon 2011, when we were at a different location.

The policy for this year is as follows:

Any weapon that can shoot a projectile, or could in the past, will not be permitted. Prohibited examples include, but are not limited to:
  • Airsoft guns - Even if it has been disabled or modified
  • Water guns/pistols/rifles/blasters
  • BB/Pellet guns
  • Crossbows, bows, dart guns, or blow guns

Props, resin casts, and toys simulating the appearance of such items will be allowed only if they:

  • Are easily identifiable as toys or props
  • Have no moving parts
  • Are marked with a non-removable orange tip

More details about our Cosplay Props Policy can be found here: http://www.zenkaikon.com/general/policies.php#weapons

Also, keep in mind that these rules are for the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center itself (where the convention will be held). Locations outside of the Expo Center (including hotels), are free to set their own rules.

Hope this helps!

Mk. My cosplay toy gun I got though makes sounds and has a moving, trigger and laoding part. It doesn't do but makes sounds when you move the parts. It has the orange tip though..

If it has moving parts, and you wish to bring it into Zenkaikon's convention space, then it will have to be disabled. You can do this by either by removing the trigger, or any other moving parts, or permanently gluing them so they are immobilized.

You should read the convention policies concerning props for a detailed description of the Zenkaikon's convention policies regarding props.

I have a rifle I made for my Yoko Littner (TTGL) cosplay that I would like to bring this year to the convention since I live close by.
It's made out of wood and some cardboard.
Is it allowed in the convention center? D:

Also, I need a orange safety tip to put on it, any idea where I can get it at so i can put it on my prop?

Please consult our Convention Policies regarding Props: http://www.zenkaikon.com/general/policies.php#weapons

Without knowing anything about your rifle, other than what it's made out of, I cannot give you a definitive answer on whether it would be allowed.

Also, usually, the orange tip is painted on, since it would have to be something permanently attached.
