For those who aren't really familiar with anime, any Miyizaki film and/or Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust; in addition to some older titles like Vision of Escaflowne and Cowboy Beebop to name a couple. Outlaw Star is a fun watch as well, and includes just about everything you can think of -- space ships, cat girls, ninjas, fire fights, bounty hunters and outlaws. I always recommend Gankutusou (Count Of Monte Cristo) to anyone because of its unique style -- the story itself is also good. Fruits Basket is a nice title as well. The characters are likeable and the story is engaging. Another great one based on its aesthetic value is Samurai Seven -- again wonderful animation and a great story. For an older (more mature) viewer, Perfect Blue and Millenium Actress..

Hmmm... I would recommend:
Death Note for something a little more current
Samurai Champloo, because it was awesome
The Samurai X OVAs had an arty feel to them, which I enjoyed
Some Studio Ghibli pieces (Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke. I liked Howl's Moving Castle, but the ending was pretty weak to me). The animation in those films were decent, morese for Spirited Away.

In terms of movie-length anime, I'd reccommend Akira, Tekkokinkreet, and My Neighbor Totoro. Actually, that last one's the only Miyazaki moive i've seen so who knows, I might like the others.

Series-wise...hm. I tend to watch either "oh god everything's cute and i think i just vomitted rainbows" or "SUPER ACTION EVERYTHING EXPLODES" series. So, that being said, I reccommend:

- Lucky Star
- Hidamari Sketch, Hidamari Sketch x365
- Ichigo Mashimaro (i've only seen the OVAs though)
- TTGL
- Gunslinger Girl
- Black Lagoon

I would recommend Haruhi Suzumiya no Yuutsu, but that's coming from a Haruhiist.
But if not THoHS, maybe Shugo Chara if they're into shojo, if not, FIST OF THE NORTH STAAAAAAR.
Line Up: Zenkaikon 2011:
Sunday - Matryoshka Miku or Meiko (Vocaloid)

Otakon 2011:
(days to be determined)
Secret Police Miku (Vocaloid)
Captain Murasa Minamitsu (Touhou)
Jade Harley or Eridan Ampora (Homestuck)
Ritsu Tainaka (K-On!)

Shuffle!

After a long time of no anime really catching my interest, Shuffle! pulled me in and quickly became one of my favorites of all time. Both dramatic and comical, it gives you a little bit of everything. The storyline is alluring to both male and female audiences, us females swooning over the romance, developing relationships, conflict and the laughs. The guys that watch the series might love it for those aspects as well, not to mention the occasional provocative scenes. For those of you freaking out, calm down, there are no sex scenes! It remains PG-13 or so. It was highly amusing to watch the main character develop, and to see the girl he finally chooses after being followed by a swarm of lovely women. As the series progressed I fell in love with it, and hope that you will too.
Buckle those seatbelts, we're in for a bumpy riiiiiide. >:3

Gundam 00
I just love it because I do, but I personally think it's a brilliant anime, and my favorite. The characters are all excellent and have their own levels of depth, considering character is what I usually focus on in a story, and the whole thing is just... it's beautiful. Very morbid, very hypocritical, but also very hopeful.

Pandora Hearts
The manga is better, but the anime is very well done. I'm surprised that it's not as out there as it should be, considering how easily addictive it is. There are a number of omakes and various, incredibly talented seiyuu taking part. Absolutely hilarious; the voice actors are perfect for their roles- such as Ishida Akira for Break.

Movies? Anything by Satoshi Kon- but I'm biased here as well. Psychological and deep, but definitely not for kids.

There's also Katekyo Hitman Reborn, Prince of Tennis, Innocent Venus, Shuffle!, Toradora, ect.

I would recommend Kare Kano, Kodocha, Chobits, Hellsing, Escaflowne, Beck, Hell Girl, Midori Days, Fruits Basket, and also Nyan Koi in the case that you like cats.

Kare Kano: high school romance and comedy, universal themes about the 'masks' people put on to hide their true feelings and being comfortable with who you really are.

Kodocha: romance, comedy, drama with a hyperactive TV star in middle school dealing with the pressures of growing up. Also, bat abuse

Chobits: AI robot and the man who reboots her.

Hellsing: Vampires and violence, yay!

Escaflowne: Psychic girl gets teleported to a strange world with a handsome prince, mechas and catgirls. A plus.

Beck: Slice of life, also rock n roll. and high school. And engrish, win!

Hell Girl: Don't be mean or you'll get sent to the underworld, literally. Also, I want her kimono!

Midori Days: Tough guy wakes up to find there is a girl where one of his hands should be. OHOHO!

Fruits Basket: Orphaned Tohru is adopted by a very strange family. Comedy, romance, high school and Chinese Zodiac stuff.

Nyan Koi: Guy who hates cats pisses off the Cat-God and is cursed with having to understand and do 100 cats each a favor or else. Verygood!

Kara no Kyoukai: The Garden of Sinners - A series of 5 anime movies set in an alternate universe from the original Tsukihime/Melty Blood storyline. Revolves around a lot on the mindset of murderers, suicide, morality of death and questioning people's sanity

Sasameki Koto - Yuri love comedy

K-On! - High school Girls form a rock band

Kimi ni Todoke - love comedy where the main character is just an ordinary girl but people around her constantly mistake her for Sadako(Ring)

NEEDLESS - Plenty of action that's taken semi-seriously where the hero is what happens when you mix pedobear, kenshiro and Bobobo together. For people that want lots of fight scenes and the right amount of silliness added into the mix

Shakugan no Shana - This series is brilliant

Tegami Bachi - If you can overlook the fact that the main is a total crybaby that breaks out the waterworks every 5 minutes this series is actually pretty good

To Aru Majutsu no Index - Magic, Science and Espers all rolled up into one series and the main has 0 ability in both magic and esper abilities

Umineko no Naku Koro ni - This series is not for the faint of heart. Higurashi was bloody but this takes it to the next level

Valkyria.Chronicles - Anime based off of the video game

Hyakko - Silly HS series

Hellsing Ultimate - The true to manga series version
"First you must decide
Then you must follow through with it" - Lacus Clyne
