That I am watching right now is Gundam 00. I have never been a fan of Gundam series, but there is a good depth to this series that others series don't have. Also, House of Five Leaves is a great series that I got a feeling that nobody is watching even thought it is on Hulu and Funimation.com.

Two animes that are really good. Full Metal Panic (for those that haven't already seen it) and Heroic Age. Both have fascinating plots with amazing storylines and are very enjoyable and fun to watch!

If it's someone totally new to anime, never saw it before. I'd recommend something relatively short, yet an excellent example of some of the best Japan's got to offer.

My suggestions would be - Outlaw Star (26 Episodes), Cowboy Bebop (26 Episodes) or Full Metal Panic (24 Episodes).

For someone who's already established into anime, I'd recommend some classics - Macross Plus (4 episodes), Bubblegum Crisis 2040 (26 episodes) or Escaflowne (26 episodes)

For people who are really hardcore, I'd recommend Legend of the Galactic Heroes (110 Episodes), Metal Armor Dragonar (48 Episodes), Area 88 (80s OVA, 3 episodes)

I don't know what genres everyone likes, but here's a list of my favorite anime that I would recommend to people (I've excluded a few like FMA and InuYasha that people have most likely seen or heard of, at least):

Kuroshitsuji/Black Butler
Great if you like gothic-y Victorian stories, hot otherworldly butlers, and somewhat adorable 12 year old boys running enormous corporations.
Soukyuu no Fafner
If you like feelings, mecha anime and kids trying to save the world, this is for you.
Wolf's Rain
Post-apocalyptic story about wolves trying to find paradise. It's beautiful. And full of feelings.
Gundam SEED/SEED Destiny
Another one for the mecha fans in the forum. It's Gundam. What else can I say, other than giant robots? <3
Azumanga Daioh
Probably one of the most hilarious series I've encountered. A bunch of high school girls living their day-to-day lives with some mean cats, a crazy teacher, and a whole lot of wtfery.
Durarara!!
I actually can't sum this up in a few words very well. A boy moves to Ikebukuro and everything amazing starts happening to him. I tried.
Whistle!
The first manga I ever read, and the first actual anime I watched. For sports fans mainly, but it's enjoyable for everyone else, too. About a boy named Sho Kazamatsuri who dreams of becoming a soccer player.
D.N.Angel
The art is gorgeous. Basically about a family of art thieves where the son has a "curse" that's been passed down through the generations in his family. The "curse" happens to be a hot, older alter-ego.
Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica
Another series that gives a lot of feelings. Basically this cat-like thing named Kyubey goes around trying to form contracts with girls and grant their wishes, in exchange for them becoming magical girls. It's a lot more than it appears, and a lot better than I make it sound.
