DDR?

Postby Where She Go » Sun May 17, 2009 10:23 pm

Boyfriend was curious and so I must ask for him, though I told him I really doubt this, had to double check...
Will there be a DDR arcade machine?
I would figure the con could only manage a TV hooked up to a DDR mat.
This disgruntled him because he hates mats on Heavy. Can't be picky.
Buckle those seatbelts, we're in for a bumpy riiiiiide. >:3

I would have to say I'd doubt that the game room will have an actual machine. They are in the thousands to rent for a day, let alone a weekend. I will see about bringing this question to the attention of game staff so they can give a definite answer.

...We'll see. Generally the plan is, one station with a selection of console versions and Ignition (thick padded) mats...

But I might be able to acquire use of a machine. I'm still in early planning, so like I said, we'll see.

I have a metal DDR mat in the basement; hand bar and all, and I don't use it anymore. I wonder if I can donate?

I'm currently in the process of building a DDR machine out of a couple of old computers and some of real good steel heavy-duty pads. If this machine is ready for Zenkaikon, I will definitely speak to the game staff about letting Zenkaikon use it for their game room. ^.^ Right now, I'm currently acquiring hardware and the step dance programs for the machine. The physical parts are essentially all here, but the system has to be assembled and fully play tested and tweaked before it can be offered.

Technowraith: Win. Absolute win. I'd be more than happy to get that thing going in the gamerooms. Keep me updated on how it comes out, or if you need any help with it.

Floorgasm: Is it one pad, or a double? Your offer is very enticing, but I'd need two, heh.

DDR machine update:

The physical system is 50% complete. I'm working on designing a better cabinet, but i may just use the computer and the monitors as they are if this is ready in time for the convention. The base layout is to have the single cpu tower, and dual monitors (One monitor for each player, since i might be able to set up the video card to support dual monitors. If dual monitors won't work, then i'll use a single larger monitor instead). Still acquiring step dance programs and song packs for the machine. Most of the songs will be stepmania songpacks, as the dance program will be StepMania. If anyone knows where to get DDR step charts or links to places where i can acquire DDR songs/step charts, please let me know. A lot of the content so far is going to be stepmania if i can't find DDR content. Nothing against DDR, but it seems i'm having trouble finding DDR content. D: (I know there are DDR songs that have been made for Stepmania/In the Groove).

Peter: I've got a hookup for Stepmania songs if you need, he's got a collection of over 4000 (25gigs). Let me know.

The machine may not be ready in time for the convention. There's been a hardware failure in one of the video cards and i have to back order a replacement card. The warehouse can't guarantee when the item will be available. As for songs, i'll definitely look into that 25GB pack. I'm installing bigger hard drives into the computer, for expandability (basically for adding more song content). A basic test run before the video card failure yielded some decent results, though there are some tweaks and adjustments that need to be made. I may need to see about replacing a cable from the steel dance pad, but that part can be ordered and installed on my own. As of now, I would rate the machine as 65% complete.

If the cabinet isn't done in time, would the pads still be usable on another computer?

The pads are USB, but i have to replace a cable on one of the pads. I've placed an order for the replacement cable set, but it hasn't arrived yet. With USB connectivity, i think the pads should work on any computer with a USB port. As of now, i'm going to say the machine regretably may not be ready in time. My work schedule is going to nearly double in hours starting this wednesday, which limits me to only weekends for working on the machine. If the machine isn't ready for Zenkaikon, i can surely have it ready for a future mini-con or other event.

Understandable man. I'd be quite grateful if you could still bring the pads, though; I'll take care of getting a Stepmania system set up, heh.

If i can bring them, i will certainly let you know, Oshi. Right now, work has me at 50+ hours a week until who knows when, so i don't know if i can even have time to make the repairs needed. If you don't hear otherwise from here on out, assume the pads will not be available (i'd rather say this then promise them and then not be able to bring them. this way, if i can get them repaired in time, it will just be a bonus in a way).

Alright, cool.

Floorgasm and I am L, I may have to tap you for those pads if you're still willing, heh. Do they have USB or Xbox1 input?

In other news, got my Stepmania build almost filled. Right now it's over 1400 songs, almost every AC and CS mix, US and JP: 1-8, Supernova 1+2, X, Extreme 2, Ultramix 1-4 and DLC, Universe 1-3 and DLC, Hottest Party 1+2, Mario Mix, Festival, Strike, and Solo Bass & 2000. I've got Disney Rave coming down the pipe, and working on getting ITG 1 & 2 as well. Still got some tweaking to do on the interface and options, but it's looking good. Hope you all aren't indecisive, there will be a timer on song selection :P

Man, why didn't I go for Stepmania like this the last two years?
