Rave Time Adjustment

Saturday, May 12th, 2012

Attention, ravers!

The battery life on your flashing bracelets and hair accessories will have an extra hour of life.

Tonight’s rave, originally scheduled for 10PM, has been pushed back to 11PM. The 2AM end time remains the same.

Rave with DJ Kurono

Friday, May 11th, 2012

Can you dance? Can you FAKE dancing? Can you gyrate wildly to music? Do you have a pulse?

No matter what your dancing skills may or may not be, head on down to the Rave in the Main Events Hall. Starting at 10PM and lasting for the next 4 hours, DJ Kurono will spin techno Japanese music for everyone. Additionally, an amazing light show will accompany the music, giving everyone a firsthand account of how exactly Mario feels when he touches a Starman.

If you can’t make tonight’s Rave, don’t despair: tomorrow night will see a continuation of the dance, starting at the same time in the same location.

Cosplay Dating Game

Friday, May 11th, 2012

It’s rare to spot Yukka Ichihara trying to woo, among others, Link (at least OUTSIDE of the Rave).

Everything from licensing rights to pure logic prohibits such romances from forming in the characters’ source material. However, on the set of the Cosplay Dating Game, the only rule players need to follow is to try to be the best match possible.

Hosted by Buddy Christ from “Dogma” (a major improvement over Jim Lange), the Cosplay Dating Game, held Friday evening in the Main Events hall, matched two lucky bachelorettes and two even luckier bachelors with mates selected from the audience. An overly enthusiastic crowd filled the seats to see who would wind up with who.

Utterly absent from the Cosplay Dating game are the unoriginal (“What makes you smile?”) and innuendo-laden (“if I was a popsicle…”) questions that were a staple of its television counterpart. Instead, the audience and contestants alike were treated to a much better variety of questions…questions that may not have appeared on Jim Lange’s stage (except possibly when Andy Kaufman was a guest). Among the queries:

“Cake or pie?”
“If I were to push you off of a building, would you die?”
“Would you make fun of the outfit I wear on our date?”
“I live with 2 artificial girls, an animal that talks, and a man who is enslaved to me. How does this make you feel?”

And, of course, the most important question of all (even more important than “Cake or pie?”):

“Would you go to an anime con with me?”

Amidst an hour and a half of laughter, cheers, and applause, Cupid’s arrow struck eight people by the time Buddy Christ said goodnight, creating the following pairings:

–Shizuo Heiwajima and a cat;
–Lucy Heartfilia and BLU Medic;
–Sebastian Michaelis and Yumichika Ayasegawa;
–Yuuko Ichihara and The Baron.

Fan-Run Pokémon Event at Zenkaikon!

Friday, April 6th, 2012

We’re happy to announce that some Pokémon fans have volunteered to host a brand new type of event at Zenkaikon 2012. The Pokémon Black and White Battle Frontier is an attendee-run event that will include a meetup, tournament, and spontaneous challenges throughout the convention. It sounds like a lot of fun! Read the full details below!

The Pokémon Black and White Battle Frontier at Zenkaikon

One thing the Pokémon Black and White games were missing was The Battle Frontier, something that previous installments in the series included. So five fans of Pokémon decided to make such a thing possible, but in real life! Throughout the convention, there will be five Frontier Brains, with special pins designating who they are, walking around for you to challenge with your Pokémon Black or Pokémon White game. Keep in mind they are attendees of the convention just like you so they may be a little busy. If so, they may ask you to wait a bit or just meet them at a later time. Each Frontier Brain has special rules for their challenge just like in the video game, and if you are fortunate enough to defeat them, you will receive a Frontier Symbol pin for their respective Battle Area. Good luck and be sure to check out the meet-up on Friday in the Board Game Room!

Pokémon Black and White Battle Frontier Meetup

Haven’t found many of the Battle Frontier Brains? Here is your chance! The Frontier Brains will all be here in the Board game room for you to challenge. There may be other people in line in front of you, but while you’re waiting your turn you could always trade or battle with the other Pokémon Trainers that show up. Looking forward to seeing you there!

Pokémon Black and White Battle Frontier Tournament
Now is your chance for the ultimate claim to fame! You’ve collected all five Frontier Symbols around the convention, what’s next? A tournament run by the Frontier Brains themselves, anyone who has collected all 5 Frontier Symbols can enter this free tournament! Battle through against other challengers to be crowned The Pokémon Black and White Battle Frontier Champion, you’ll also get a few prizes if you win or do good enough in the tournament. Good luck and try your best!
